For some pedestrian bridge decks, it is prone to problems such as waterlogging and slippage in winter rain and snow conditions. Wuhan Bridge Management Office adopts the “Winter Diseases and Summer Treatments” approach and uses the Qiaokou Renshou Road Flyover and other four problem bridge decks. New materials such as black fused alumina have been transformed.

There are 101 pedestrian bridges under the jurisdiction of the city's bridges. The bridge deck pavement is divided into concrete and rubber plates. In the daily management, it is found that there are certain defects in the rubber deck deck: easy to fall off affect the use of the function, rainy deck deck damage is easy to form waterlogging, and then corroded bridge steel plate, frozen weather, poor slip performance. In this regard, the bridge is in contact with the bridge construction unit. It is proposed that the newly-built bridges no longer use rubber sheets for paving the bridge deck, and boldly use the new type of material, black corundum, for bridge deck renovation.

Black corundum (also known as low aluminum corundum sand, iron sand powder) is a new type of polishing material. It has been found in practice that the bridge surface is waterproof, wear-resistant and non-slip.

There are a total of four overpasses for bridge deck reconstruction, including Renshou Road Tianqiao, Rose Garden Tianqiao, Aviation Road Tianqiao and Donghu Middle School Bridge. In the next step, the office will actively organize the reconstruction of two concrete bridge flyovers at Yongqing Street Flyover and Tongji Flyover.
