Automation Control Will Drive Sensor Sales Growth

According to market insights, ICInsights pointed out that in 2011, the market has strong demand for MEMS sensors, fiber laser emitters, CMOS image sensors, light emitting diodes (LEDs), and power transistors, making photovoltaics, sensors/actuators, and discrete Markets such as semiconductors showed a slightly higher average growth rate of 8%. At the same time, these three sectors also recorded a new sales record of 57.4 billion U.S. dollars while most of the semiconductor product categories were in decline during the past year.

ICInsights' latest market survey for optoelectronics, sensors and discrete components (OSD) reports that sales in the 2012 OSD market will grow to $61.6 billion. The report also lists several product categories that will show strong growth in 2012. They are: Accelerometer/Yaw Sensor (21%), Laser Emitter (18%), Pressure Sensor (15%), Magnetic Field Sensor (14%), and actuator (11%).

ICInsights further stated that the future includes Motion-activated user interfaces, embedded automation control, and position awareness capabilities built into mobile phones and portable electronic devices that will continue to drive sales growth for MEMS sensors.
