According to a Reuters report on May 19, the German automaker BMW Group said it has invested a total of 1 billion euros (about 7.7 billion yuan) in two Chinese factories over the past three years to upgrade the production line. BMW has two factories, namely the Dadong and Tiexi factories in Shenyang. Today, BMW produces the long-wheelbase version of the 5-series sedan at the Dadong plant and is preparing to produce the X3 off-road vehicle at its joint venture partner, BMW Brilliance. In addition, BMW is renovating the southern region of the Dadong plant to increase plant flexibility. BMW also pointed out that a new high-voltage battery factory is currently under construction and will be responsible for assembling batteries for plug-in hybrid vehicles, which are expected to be put into use in the second half of 2017.
